We couldn’t use the pool with out scheduling first, and we could go only for one hour a day if there was an open spot. The mattress was very uncomfortable, and the restaurant only open at 4pm on Monday and Tuesdays. I was very disappointed.
The good: very affordable skiing for the family. If you are a guest you get 20% discount. Little to no lines at beginner lifts. Ski school good deal which includes all mountain pass, rentals and 2 hour lesson. Not so good: almost every aspect of the hotel experience was slow. Check in was slow they asked for too many info such as address and email. I get phone number but the lines were long and it was slow. Breakfast room service took 2 hours from order to delivery, which caused us to be late for skiing on Thursday. To top it off, the slopes closed 2.5 hours early due to maintenance. They gave a “discount” for the inconvenience. Food choices at hotel were severely limited. On weekdays their sushi and grill were closed. Room service doesn’t operate all day. Their premier restaurant on the hill was closed. We were stuck eating overprice foods. 10 oz hanger steak $48, breakfast $83 for 3 dishes. For two nights we spent $700 on food for family of five and ordered 3 dishes each time. Girdwood itself has very limited food options, around only 15 restaurants. Beginner runs were limited and the greens were short. We tried the blues and the sourdough abs cabbage patch were very steep blues. Great for intermediate and advanced but bad for those who want to stroll. The rooms were not too clean the phones had so much dirt and dust I had to wipe down everything. I wouldn’t come back to alyeska. We love to ski and eat and The lack of food choices is the biggest deal breaker.
The resort location was great for skiing and hiking, but not walking distance to town. So convenient to have the ski lift and the gondola right outside the back door. Cool ice skating pond in back. Pool room had a strong odor of chlorine but was big and indoors with mountain views. I was surprised that there was not really a hotel bar during the week in March. But the small store sells beer by the can or bottle to go. Ski rentals and lift tickets all have discounted rates for hotel guests. Rooms were clean and standard.
Aleyska is beautiful- this place needs a update. There are many things that are spot on, like the bedding, the views, etc. The first thing would just be to update the restaurants. They are trying so hard to be fancy that the meals are just stupid. Ordered a caeser salad and was served to anorexic stalks of romaine and it was infused with kinda dressing/crouton crumbs. The bathrooms need love, 80s tile with weird climb in tubs.
Our room was clean and comfortable! We really liked the mattress! Could have used more cups for water in the bathroom and more coffee for the Keurig.
This is our 5th stay in the resort. We absolutely love it here!! The only change I wish we could make is better control with the heating in the room. It gets too warm, but that is minor and hasn’t stopped us from returning.
This place is a perfect hotel for me. The building isn’t brand new, so some of the decor feels a bit dated... but WHO CARES. The view is immaculate. You can get on the tram lift from inside the hotel. Awesome ski mountain. Amazing views all around. Great restaurants in the hotel, and a short drive away. Loved the staff. They are very friendly, but not overbearing like at a Ritz, etc. If you want Aspen-level skiing without the over the top glitz and glamor, this is a great option.
I have to say this is one of the most disappointing stays at the hotel. I would like to point out that they did go above and beyond to in force The Covid mandates, which as a business owner I really do appreciate. That being said due to Covid there was no valet parking which I understand. However there was no parking lot monitoring for the endless amount of people that were parked and no park zones which made it much more difficult for people having to park their vehicles to get around in the lot. For 3 days the parking was horrible. I truly feel if you’re going to take away valet parking due to the pandemic then the parking lot needs to be monitored and those people not following the rules need to be held accountable or towed per the sign that’s posted. The other issue was the reservation for the pool was never properly communicated when we explained our frustration they put us on a wait list for two days and said we should have no problem getting in and we never received a phone call. And sadly we found friends that were able to utilize the pool the night before we checked out and said that there was nowhere near the amount of aloud gas in the pool. So I had 2 15 yr old boys waiting to get a call so they could utilize the pool and never received one. But for 2 nights and 2 rooms we were charged a resort fee. And I really feel like that was unfair. I will say the housekeeping staff was wonderful, so was the room service staff. I truly felt Let down as a returning guest
The parking facilities were not up to par. They need to have enough parking available so that guests don’t have to drive around for 30 minutes waiting for something to become available.
