We spent two nights at the hotel, one night out and then another three nights at swissotel. I paid the same rate for each stay. First stay was great. We got really nice rooms on the 10th floor. It was during the time of the military parade and the hotel managers really did anything they could to provide us with food and drinks, even though they were controlled hard by the government. The receptionists however seemed to be pissed off that they weren't off...
The second stay was absolutely different. The rooms we got were a shame. Clearly not 5*, even if I consider being in Beijing and not Shanghai. We decided not to complain further, since the staff at the reception did not really care or kept telling us, we could buy an upgrade to a better room. Even when we told them that we just stayed here at the same rate with much better rooms, they were not willing to help.
So if you want to book this hotel: it doesn't really matter what kind of cathegory of rooms you choose, in the end they will put you to whatever room they want, brushing off your complaints.
Besides that, the location is absolutely great and still the reason I booked this hotel. Make sure you got an address written in Chinese/Mandarin, as taxi drivers at the airport are not able to read roman letters or do know where the hotel is...
Book this hotel if you want a great location, but not for the 5* or good service from reception staff
