I landed in Jakarta around 1am and waited over an hour for a Bluebird to take me to Diradja. It was a turbulent flight and I was unable to sleep, so I was REALLY looking forward to diving into my hotel bed. I booked online and mentioned the very late check-in and thought I'd simply be able to grab my keycard and pass out. Nope.
The man behind the counter spoke very little English and couldn't understand when I told him I had already booked and paid online. After telling me "problem, problem" - never a good sign - he disappeared into the back room and returned about five minutes later with another guy who spoke ever so slightly more English. Another 10 minutes later I finally got my keycard.
The next day, I was locked out of the room. I brought the keycard to the counter and the staff asked me if I was staying another night. I explained that my reservation was for 5 nights and he returned my card. The same thing happened the very next day.
On my 3rd night, I was woken up by what can only be described as the screech of an industrial drill. At 2am, right beneath my room. The front desk staff said "sorry, construction." Throughout the stay, electricians were playing with a tangle of wires behind a door that was directly in front of my room.
Last but not least, the shower had only one temperature: boiling. At least it kept me from wasting too much time getting ready in the morning!
Yep, it was a nightmare.
