Great family getaway
This is a lovely place and the people are very kind. While it is a hotel technically—and the only one on the island currently—it is a network of cottages around a central clubhouse with restaurant, pool and outdoor bar. Our cottage had been updated, mostly, and was very clean. Our family loved how the cottages are spread about, connected by gravel walkways and surrounded by trees, birds and beautiful views. Culebra is a rustic island but we love it that way. Note: this is not an easily accessible island, or property, for anyone with physical limitations or the elderly. Paths are not smooth concrete. The included breakfast was simple but tasty, and the staff were very friendly and all spoke English very well. They were also very helpful by picking us up at the ferry, which is about a 7 minute drive. The biggest surprises were that you really do need to rent a car here in Culebra, and the roosters crowing at 7am. This is not the hotel’s fault as there are feral chickens and roosters all over the island! I don’t imagine there is a single spot on the island that can claim to be rooster-free. We learned to laugh about it and my kids named all the local chickens. We will definitely be returning.
Also, if you like water adventures, I highly recommend getting a water taxi/charter to Culebrita for a day trip. We did this on a day we couldn’t get a Jeep rental, and it was gorgeous. They even picked us up at the hotel and brought us back at the end of the day.
