Spent 4 days and 3 Nights in this hotel recently, the hotel seems it had its good old days gone by for a while now. You can sense the time weight in most of the facilities, for example the water plumbing had this particular smell of swap water, possibly from rain water mixing with the potable water in the tank. The A/C in the room was dead only blowing Hot Fan Air, the ceiling fan had only 3 speeds, Slow, Slower and SlowMo meaning the room would get pretty hot during most of the day.
There was a soft smell of overflown toilet water near the restaurant, where you could see the sewer (located behind the hotel restaurant) was actually overflow requiring some heavy maintenance.
Still if you manage to ignore all of this, the hotel location in pretty convenient since you are away from the Puerto Viejo and Cocles noise, covered in nice jungle sounds and Beach front private access, plus the staff manages to be friendly and attentive enough to keep your 1 star ranking away just for Hotel facilities.
For Caribbean hotels in CR, this one is a mid ranker that with some focused maintenance and investment could simply go back to the on the top.
