Makarska is a resort town built around a sheltered bay along the Makarska Rivera. It has miles of pristine (some clothing-optional) beaches facing the Adriatic coast and dramatic cliffs of Mount Biokovo. Active travellers can enjoy swimming, snorkelling and diving in clear waters, as well as hiking or cycling along well-marked trails overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

Makarska’s cultural heritage and Baroque architecture are prevalent on the streets and seafront promenade. Iconic landmarks include St. Mark's Cathedral, the 17th-century Franciscan Monastery, and the Baroque Ivanišević Palace. There’s also a busy harbour where ferries and boats can take you to nearby islands like Brač and Hvar.
