I am not sure what to say about this hotel-in general, this is an upscale, older, but very well-maintained property. The interior design and features are quite sophisticated and are deserving of a five-star status.
Having said that though, the main problem we encountered with this hotel was the original check in and room assignment. We had a booked a room with a balcony and a nice city view. When we checked in, they assigned us a room with a view of two very dirty buildings in the background of a construction site. There was an active crane and work going on right outside of our window, which was very, very unpleasant.
We returned to front desk, confronted them with this, and finally were able to have a front desk manger help us. To her credit, she was able to get us a much more suitable room assignment.
So everything ended well, but we were left with a concern about the business ethics and intent of a seemingly upscale hotel which was willing to assign a balcony room with a marketed nice city view to us, when in reality the room looked directly out on to a construction site.
For the money, I think there are probably much better options for your travel accommodations in Taibei, and would recommend against this hotel.
