The hotel is placed centrally in Chipping Campden and boasts a nice terrace where you can dine or have drinks.
The breakfast is average - not great, but not too bad either.
However, I have mixed feelings about the service:
When arriving at the hotel, I wanted to ask where I could park my car. The receptionist was just talking to two guests, so I decided to wait patiently, expecting that he would avoid unnecessary small talk since another guest was waiting. However, he completely ignored me, told the two guests "ok, let me show you your room" and just disappeared without even asking whether I need anything or telling me that he would be back in a minute. Luckily, we found someone else in the restaurant.
Another time, I asked for fire as I wanted to light candles of a birthday cake. The receptionist was not very keen to help me, stating that there were no matches in the hotel. She eventually gave me some after insisting that I would really appreciate her help.
In most cases, there was no one at the reception. That is fine - however, if you decide to have the reception not occupied during the day, then please at least place a bell.
Just to be clear: only half of the staff seemed to be rude.
I am also fully aware that the hotel probably also suffered from the covid crisis and hence also advise to discount my observations accordingly. Nevertheless, neither of the things mentioned above occurred in the hotel in which we stayed in the following days.
