Unexpected last minute booking on the way to Hove. I chose to book the Albany due to the short distance between the train station and the beach and the reasonable price of around £100 for my young son and I. Upon arrival we were greeting with a very friendly face and shown to our room. I was told it was on the third floor which was fine and I think there was a lift (did not use as do not like lifts!) so the trek up the stairs and through about 3 doors was quite exhausting. However, we were happy with the room, one double bed and separate bathroom, which hosted a shower, sink and toilet. For what I paid for the room, I would not expect the Ritz but there was a lot to be desired, which in fairness could be quick fixes for the hotel. The blind did not stay up so I had to tie this down. Although tea/coffee making facilities were plentiful, there was no spoon to stir and I did not want to make the trip down the stairs just for this reason! The shower is a little dated and the head itself was very high up and in a set position so I could not point this down onto me so it took a little careful setting. The shower itself worked fine. The towels however were so small, luckily I had brought my own. The mattress of the double bed in room 318 could do with replacing. I had a terrible night's sleep because of the amount of springs digging into me. The cleanliness could have been improved. Otherwise, the room was quiet and dark. Overall I would rate this an acceptable stay.
