Friendly welcome and great location.
The Reading Rooms are a great base for any visit to this part of England. We have used them for easy access to the Hadrian’s Wall forts but our favourite is to walk the 5 minutes to the railway station in Haydon Bridge and jump on a train into Hexham (10 mins). Haydon Bridge is a lovely, friendly small town on the banks of the South Tyne. Brian (the host) always gives visitors a warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble in helping to make the stay enjoyable. We enjoy the freedom that the Reading Rooms give in that it is a relatively small B&B and that the kitchen and dining room are always available to visitors. The use of allocated space in the fridge is also a bonus for us as we love taking picnics out with us and we’re able to store our groceries for the weekend (and keep the wine chilled!). This was our second visit to the Reading Rooms and we will certainly be back again in the not too distant future.

Hadrian's wall walk
The room was clean and modern. It was very quiet at night. If you're walking Hadrian's wall, a stay here comes with some thoughtful touches. They have a drying closet with a radiator inside for wet clothes and boots, additionally, the room I stayed in had a boot tray. Brian is a very gracious host.

Comfort in a great location
This is a great B & B. Beautifully appointed and decorated and very, very clean. Shower excellent with lots of hot water. The heating was very good during the chilly evenings. First evening it would not work but the owner arrived within minutes and sorted the issue. The owner was welcoming and helpful. Loved the help yourself breakfast. Plentiful supply of tea and coffee. The location is great. The river is just over the road with great walks. Buses go from nearby to Newcastle and Carlisle and stops in between. A good hourly service. The station is a short walk along the road. Parking is on the street. I was always able to park although on one occasion had to be patient but only for a few minutes before a space became available. I would definitely stay hear again if I am in the area.

Superb - would come again
Not only is the set-up excellent but the owners are very trusting - felt completely free and at home. We had a downstairs room. Internet was excellent and the local town is quiet, clean and well situated for travelling around the Hexham area.

Great location
We were made very welcome on our arrival and were led to a spacious room with a fantastic view across the river that passes through Haydon Bridge. Our whole stay was very enjoyable. Haydon Bridge itself is a friendly small town and its surroundings are full of history. The railway station ( only 2 minutes from the Reading Rooms) gave us easy access to Hexham, a town well worth a visit if you are in the area. The Reading Rooms are easily within striking distance of Hadrian’s Wall and the string of Roman forts along its length. The Reading Rooms have a small library of tourist information, although Brian was more than willing to offer local advice and guidance. In fact every effort had been made to ensure that our stay was enjoyable and great care had been taken to ensure that we were totally Covid safe whilst on the premises. The Reading Rooms are a small b&b with only three rooms, but it therefore has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere in a wonderful old building. Location is a major advantage of this b&b which gives easy access to an amazing part of England.

Great place to stay
We really enjoyed our stay at the reading rooms. The room was clean, bright, and comfortable and Brian's wealth of knowledge about the local area meant that our time in the area was well spent. Although they are not doing breakfast due to social distancing restrictions, everything we could need for breakfast was provided for us. They have taken all of the COVID restrictions very seriously and we felt very happy staying there. I would definitely recommend a visit to the reading rooms

Lovely stay
We visited not long after re-opening of pubs and restaurants. Brian met us on arrival and was very welcoming and helpful and showed us the facilities, including ice buckets in case we wanted to chill our drinks in the hot weather. He even walked us down to his favourite local. We didn't need any assistance for the rest of our stay but knew he was only a phone call away. The Reading Rooms was a briliant base for a trip to Vinlandia, a walk to the beautiful Langley Castle and a meal in Hexham. It was realy having the train station just down the road. We stayed over the weekend so it was a little noisy being opposite the pubs, but this was easily blocked out by closing the front window. Thanks for a lovely stay! : )
