I really like this hotel, and would suggest it to anyone visiting from overseas as a good example of how things used to be done. The building is older and has all the quirkiness that comes with that. The room I had was reasonably spacious and well appointed, very clean, nothing to really pick fault with.
The common areas downstairs are traditionally decorated, well maintained, and display the history of the location well. They are warm and inviting.
The real thing about this hotel is that the service element is still there, from reception, to the bar and into the restaurant. Staff are plentiful and attentive, and it all adds up to a very civilised experience. I ate in the restaurant and the food was good, with a decent wine list. The room price is reasonable and the restaurant price is possibly at the high end, but the quality is there and the service and overall vibe made it worthwhile for me. It's all a little posh, but in no way stuck up.
