House of horrors! Stayed two nights in the 'Executive Room' and regretted every minute. Here’s why:
• Don’t trust the images on the website. It looks like this place is set within landscaped gardens but is actually next to a major road on one side, an elevated motorway on another, and a tower block at the back (see our pics)
• Due to the proximity to a major road, there is traffic noise at all day and night
• We were located on the second floor in a part of the building without an elevator, so had to take cases up and down two floors of stairs
• Our room had windows on all sides with blinds to give privacy or to keep the light out, however as every single one of the blinds was broken, they remained down leaving the room perpetually gloomy
• On our second night, we were woken at 00.10hrs by a member of staff cleaning the stairs outside our room. Although we called the reception about this, the cleaning continued for another 30-45 minutes
• the room hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned for a long time because we picked up lots of dirt on our feet
• we were charged £6.84 for two mini bottles of Evian water in our room. This is unacceptable because there are general warnings to avoid drinking tap water in Shanghai, and the bottles had no prices attached unlike other items in the room
Moller Villa can't be classified as a hotel. It is not set up to take guests and seems instead to be a place where people go for afternoon tea. When checking in and out, staff seemed unclear what to do.
