One night at the Railway Inn

This was a basic hotel with basic pub grub. Very uncomfortable pillows and I had a terrible night as my room was so noisy. It is right on the railway station, and although the trains were not such an issue with a room at the back, the main road most certainly was! I hardly had any sleep. The breakfast was measly. On the plus side, the staff were lovely and the landlady Pauline was very kind and accomodating above and beyond.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, for me the bed was too hard so didnt sleep and the towel a little on the small size. Overall was good

Great place

This is a really quaint and rustic hotel literally by a train station. I really liked the setting, the room, the area, the ambience and everything. I had great sleep and you need to visit this place just for the lamb cutlets. Room was spotless, bed was comfy, and food was hearty and amazing. For people who love jogging/walking/biking there is a cycling/walking route alongside abingdon road with plenty of blackberries which can make for a great exercise in the morning or afternoon. As a suggestion, I do genuinely believe the food portions are massive and I would say perhaps asking guests when they check in if they going to have dinner might be helpful for guests. This was a great stay and I will look to come back.

A great place to explore the surrounding areas

Booked the Railway Inn as I was visiting the local area and it seemed to work as a midway point, even though a bit out of the way. No real expectations but it was a great experience, particularly the welcome from the friendly host and a delicious cooked breakfast included with the room. There was some noise from the road and due to the heat and keeping the window open, made it a bit more challenging to sleep but the beds were comfy and the room was clean and well equipped. Had a minor power outage so showering with the phone light created a mini adventure! I'd like to have taken advantage of what looked like a well stocked bar and some more excellent food but sadly had to move on after just one night

Railway inn

The B&B is next to a train station the main line to Oxford the trains Where every 20mins throughout the night the noice wasn’t good the main road was also close and from 6am it was busy with traffic. The room was okay pillows where rock hard and the shower room needed a good clean and there was yellow slime around the bottom of the shower tray have a video of required the sink was dirty . They don’t cater for gluten free guests.

What a lovely place! The owners are lovely and the food was amazing and very well priced, definitely going to be staying again when I’m back in the area

6/10 Good

Railway memorabilia was of interest; a broken chain on the wash hand basin plug was annoying. There were no instructions for finding the property which was difficult. The property was actually in Culham and not Abingdon

Great place to stay

Why stay in a bland hotel chain when you can stay here where there are really friendly people, the food is good and the room clean and comfortable?

Hidden Gem

Really nice old school pub/Inn right next to the railway station with a long long history, not a poncey gastro pub, a proper old school pub. Really nice staff and really good prices, food was great, locals that I met were all very nice, room was cracking. Quite a few trains go past as you would imagine, but I didn’t find them an issue and slept fine with the window open, they get fewer and fewer the later it gets. I will definitely be booking this one again. This would suit anyone travelling for work, anyone wanting to discover some UK history, train buffs or spontaneous explorers.

Comfy bed

Nice comfy bed and a decent size room. Could do with a fridge though. Breakfast was delicious, but they had no vegan options. I may stay here again, but only if the price drops. It’s too expensive for what’s on offer. I’d really like to see a fridge in the room. It makes all the difference.
