Awful experience – Stay away as far as you can!
We had booked a room at the Best Western Executive Hotel Of New Haven in advance and had the reservation confirmed. Shortly after midnight, we arrived exhausted at the hotel after a busy day and were told by an unfriendly employee in an L. A. Lakers shirt, who was playing on his smartphone, that the hotel was fully booked. He ignored the fact that we had a confirmed reservation and just kept saying that all the rooms were booked - no apology, no activity to help us in any way. On friendly inquiry, how it could come that all rooms were occupied, he said only that the "system" would work like that, he could not do anything and we had bad luck. Finally, we had to look for another hotel in the middle of the night and pay more than double for an overnight stay. Cheekily, the hotel then canceled our reservation in the middle of the night (around 4 am), because we allegedly had not checked in. Annoyed, we went to the hotel the next morning and spoke to another employee who referred us to Expedia customer service and only after asking several times he handed us out a confirmation that we did not stay at the hotel. Gladly, Expedia customer service was able to help us and we got our money back.
What remains, however, is the annoyance about the hotel employee, the additional costs for the overnight stay in another hotel and the assumption that the hotel simply gave our room to someone else (and possibly even wanted to collect twice).
