Our first impression - the receptionist was flustered training two new persons. The first King room we were given was on the 1st floor, AC did not work, the room was humid, paint was badly peeling on ceiling, the door opened and shut hard due to a failing hinge, and our view was of a large fan that when the window was open for air at night, was noisy. The front desk receptionist sent someone back to the room with us to verify our issues with the room, then she assigned another room directly above. That room a mirror image of the first, it was in better shape, paint peeling in the bathroom only, sink didn't drain well (no stopper) and the same lovely view of the fan but not as noisy one floor up. The next morning we awoke to the scraping of the ceiling below as they made repairs to the first room we were assigned below us. I felt like a 2nd class citizen because we booked through hotels.com as the hotel was definitely not full; why assign a room in the worst location/view especially when you have to move all your luggage down those hallway steps to another room?
The hotel entry is 9 steps up to the front door and the 1st floor rooms require another 9 steps up to get to the hallway. We had dinner in the restaurant twice and the staff and food was exceptional. The public rooms were very nice and there was a large heated pool and changing rooms which was great. The grounds were well kept and clean.
