The area was not inviting, and the surrounding buildings are old and dirty looking. however, the neighborhood was safe, in my opinion, as we were able to be in and out at all hours (wee hours of the morning as well) without issue or concern. The breakfast was excellent and more than expected, but you have to be on time, because they close off at 9:30 a.m. They even had complimentary popcorn in the lobby every evening, as well as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, available 24hrs/day.
Check-in and out was a breeze, and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We found the room to be a little on the small side for two persons, but what do you expect in New York. Everything in the room was good, and it was equipped with a TV, safe, iron &ironing board, hairdryer, microwave, coffee, tea, and mini fridge. Ice was on the ground floor, but the hotel is small so it was no issue for us. the bathroom was very clean, and everything worked properly. They gave us more than enough towels and toiletries to last the five days we were there. You're literally 4-5 mins walk away from a MTA (train) station, where we hopped on the D train, which will take you on 6th Ave to Herald Sq., Bryant Pk., or Rockefeller, without having to transfer. Of course there are many more stops on the line as well.
Overall, I was happy with my choice, given my purpose in Brooklyn specifically.
