The real headline: there was what appeared to be feces on one of the two beds.
The review: Checking in was fine. I had no delusions that this was the Ritz, but it had a 6 rating and Hotels.com said it was “Good.”
I feel bamboozled by both the hotel and Hotels.com.
The room was filthy, the shower was broken, there were multiple types of hair on the bathroom floor, the shower drain was broken, there was an old smashed spider on the wall, there were burn marks and bleach stains on the comforters, the box springs were falling apart, and, of course, there was what was pretty clearly a smear of poop on on of the sides of the bed.
When I informed the front desk of all of this, and that we were not staying, they were completely unphased. I may as well have told them that I needed an extra towel. This was clearly far from a unique situation, and in looking other places for reviews we found that to be the case. It has a 1 on yelp… a 1! But I trusted Hotels.com, which I will not do again. Nor will I ever stay at this hotel again and I will warn all other people who are going to San Luis Obispo to avoid Lamplighter Inn at all costs until it is completely redone and owned by other people. Or maybe if it were bulldozed because camping in a tent on the ruble would likely be a more comfortable experience.
