I have used hotels.com for 10 plus years and had great success until now. I am so disappointed about what happened. At the bottom of this reservation there were two words that I didn’t notice. “Shared amenities.” When we talked to the person on the phone, because there was nobody to help on the property he started telling us about the kitchen and bathroom that we would be sharing with the other people in the suite.
Excuse me? What? We didn’t travel from Minnesota to Toronto to share a suite with people we have never met. We would NEVER do this. The guy on the phone tried to tell me this was common. It’s not. I have a major medical condition and I won’t stay with people I don’t know.
I told him that I wanted a refund. He said he would call his boss and they would set up a refund the following day. I didn’t book this property until 9:00 P.M at night so there wasn’t exactly a wait to get in.
The guy on the phone and the property ghosted me. They wouldn’t respond to texts or calls. They kept my money for a total of almost $1600 and we never even set foot on the property. All of our vacation money gone. Interestingly enough they changed the description on the property to “communal living,” after my complaint. Also the last line listed.
I also contacted hotels.com immediately and they said that they would get back to me in 1-3 days. They never did. In the end they too refused to refund even one dollar. This was absolutely the worst experience, and it destroyed our vacation.
