La Selva is a biological station run by the OTS. Besides research, if it's also open for non-researching overnight guests. The station is easy to reach by public bus. Coming from Guapiles, just let yourself be dropped about 3 km before Sarapiqui, where you can see the big La Selva sign from the main street. The station is really an amazing place, especially when you are interested in nature. I would absolutely recommend to stay overnight, as only overnight guests are allowed to walk the extensive trail network without any guide. You can easily spend several days exploring the trails, which go through both primary and secondary forest. We observed many animals, such as howler monkeys, collared pekari, iguanas, eye-lashed pit viper, frogs, tukans, trogons, woodpeckers, and many more. A paradise for birders! Don't expect luxury and don't forget closed shoes, insect repellent and flashlight. Food was great, a bit like mensa feeling, many students. We did a guided walk, which was absolutely amazing. Our guide was really enthusiastic about nature, english speaking, knew everything we were asking and explained it in a scientific manner. All in all, a perfect stay! We would absolutely recommend.
