I only stayed one night in Lima; for that purpose, the hotel was adequate. Since I travelled alone, I was happy that my host contacted me in advance and sent a taxi which picked me up from the airport. The hotel is a private home where the first floor is turned into a hotel. My room and bathroom were clean, but not as warm as I would have liked at night (which is not that unusual in Peru!). The water was warm and the Internet good. I had access to a television in the first floor "living room".
My host showed me the supermarket around the corner and helped me to get a SIM. Since I speak spanish, I do not know how his english is.
When some friends arrived early in the morning and one of them was sick, the family cared for him and brought tea. We even could leave him there for an hour and could go grocery-shopping for our trip.
Nonetheless, that "home-feeling" you get when staying with another family also is a little bit of a disadvantage. In a hotel, I could have let my friends into my room easily, with my host, I felt like I could not (nevertheless, he helped me a lot when he saw that one of them was sick).
Pro:
-taxi from the airport
-clean, good rooms
-help from the host where you need it
-near the airport
Contra:
-not close to attractions
Neutral:
-family is around
If you want to stay a few nights in Lima near the airport, I would recommend staying here. If you want to go out a lot, come home whenever you want to and have friends over, you should go somewhere else.
