We had a great stay at the Mission Reef Resort!
The service was perfect, really kind-hearted people, cleanliness was great, well-equipped, and overall a comfy and quiet place with a fun pool, in the amazing surroundings of Mission Beach (beaches, rainforests, cafes, locals, wildlife, etc.).
A general note to travelers:
When driving in an out of (or in) Mission Beach, please comply with the speed limits and Cassowary warning signs, best you go way slower.
Cassowaries are yet another endangered species in Australia, with the highest concentration around Mission Beach, and they may appear out of nowhere when coming out of the dense woods and crossing the street (expect 45kgs with sharp claws crashing through your windshield at 80-100 km/h).
Especially at night, you will generally and always have lots of animals on the roads here (snakes, toads, possums, etc.), so drive carefully and expect maneuvering around several creatures (it’s always better to go in daylight in Australia or to drive slower and extremely carefully at night).
The density of the rainforests and fauna makes this a very special area, though. Go for a walk at one of the walking tracks / trails, to experience it up-close and its beauty!
