Our rooms were clean and well equipped with a kettle, tea, coffee, hairdryer, fan, iron and ironing board. We had a shower/bath in our ensuite which worked well with plenty of hot water. The rooms and building are clearly not brand new and highly glamorous-but well maintained, very clean and perfectly comfortable. It is a family owned hotel in contrast to local competition with its own bar and restaurant, staffed and open six days a week, unusual these days. We had an excellent meal there on our first evening, well executed traditional British hostel fare, well served.(A selection of non- dairy milks for my coffee, good choice of wines)
We then moved into the bar which remained open till late;friendly atmosphere with the football on television in one end, ideal for those who wanted to watch but didn't dominate the space. The restaurant/ bar recently refurbished and a very pleasant, well designed space. Second night our whole party converged on the bar.
Excellent breakfast was included in the price with buffet elements(juices, cereal, toast, fruit etc) and a choice of cooked breakfasts made to order. My daughter, who overslept, came down late for breakfast on her own, but a lovely staff member gave her a tray and she brought her Weetabix, toast, yogurt and fresh fruit back to her room to eat.
The excellent service made this hotel stand out. From checking in and out, the charming and professional restaurant and bar service, friendly housekeeping staff-we couldn't fault it.
