The location is excellent, and the property would be an interesting stay for old-home-lovers, but ultimately I think the price is a bit too high for just an average guest experience.
We had Ruthieās Balcony. Itās a very cool, vintage room with a super comfortable bed, but there are some areas that just need some upkeep, like peeling and bubbling paint on the bathroom tiles, missing smoke detectors, non-gfci outlets, half used random brand bottles of shampoo and body wash. You expect a little bit of this with a vintage property, but not to this extent for the price.
The breakfast was DIY quaker oatmeal and some breakfast bars, and there was coffee, tea, and juice stocked for each day we stayed. Itās just slightly better than no breakfast at all.
Service was solid. Itās self-check-in and out, and communication leading up to and during the stay was good. There was no housekeeping during our stay. Unsure if this is offered upon request since we didnāt look or ask. Itās not a knock, just an FYI if thatās something you care about.
Things that arenāt necessary but wouldāve made this stay feel more worth it: some simple personalization like a welcome note or local treat; better breakfast offerings like simple fresh pastries or breads from local shops; higher-quality bathroom toiletries; pre-made coffee each morning for all guests; and slightly better maintained rooms (they were very clean, just need better upkeep).
