We stayed in a room with two twin beds - the base level room - which overlooked the parking lot. The beds were comfortable and the room and the the ryokan itself are well-maintained and clean.
The building is made of concrete with interior beige walls and linoleum flooring. There is a community room available for use with a number of board games.
You have a choice of both indoor and outdoor onsen. Both offer a beautiful view of a wooded ridge, and watching the sun slide along it in the morning is a treat. The walls of the outdoor onsen are beautifully constructed of large stones. The mine room the water give your skin a special feel.
The staff are stellar, very courteous and doing everything they can to meet whatever needs you may have. While talking with the front desk, we mentioned that we were going hiking for the day. His response, aside from wishing us a good hike, was to provide two bear bells since he saw we had not brought any.
We opted for the half board for our two night stay. The breakfasts and dinners, while not gourmet, were generous and well prepared. As part of your stay, they provide sandals, pants, tunics and jackets for use inside the ryokan.
The location provides good access to hiking trails, which is a prime reason that we chose it.
One afternoon, we encountered a tribe of macaques.
There is a shuttle from the train station if you do not have a car or do not like to drive winding roads.
